Awards Ceremony Celebrates Outstanding 2013 Performances
In a crowded Clubhouse on Friday, January 17, 2014, the winners of the Club’s awards for 2013 performances were announced in a moving ceremony by Commodore Brian Watkins, Junior Staff Commodore Bruce Van Deventer and other Club leaders. As they noted, being nominated for an Award is the great honor, and with such outstanding nominees, the voting by the Board was very close for all awards. Congratulations to all nominees and winners.
Discretionary Awards
• Hans Otto Giese Award – Remmert Wolters (for consistent leadership and contributions to sailing)

• Sailor of the Year – Keith Whittemore
(other nominees: Jerry Diercks, Craig Horsfield, Julian Martin and Steve Travis)
• Boat of the Year – Terremoto skippered by Bill Weinstein
(other nominees: Absolutely (Charlie Macaulay), Delirium (Jerry Diercks) and Trophy Wife (Glen Klute)
• Boating Family of the Year – Nate, Wanda and Dieter Creitz
(other nominees: Jerry Diercks & Deb Prince, and Amy & Bill Little w/Belinda, Camille and Fitz)
• Cruising Boat of the Year – Altair (Paul Baker and Suzette Connolly)

• Junior Sailor of the Year – Julian Martin
• Most Inspirational Junior Sailor – Marcus Huttenen
• Dog House Trophy – Steve Travis (running aground on a marked low spot during the Van Isle 360, costing Flash a first place overall for the series)

Honor Roll of Champions
CYC maintains an Honor Roll of Champions, which identified and recognizes the accomplishments of winners of national or international championships or similar awards since the founding of the club in 1947. Six additions to the New Honor Roll of Champion were announced for 2013:
• Mark Bradner – San Juan 24 North American Champion
• Bill Buchan – US Sailing Hall of Fame inductee
• Lorenzo Migliorini – Swiftsure Cape Flattery Race, Light Class winner
• Steve Travis – US Sailing Offshore Championship winner
• Bill Weinstein – Van Isle 360 Division One winner
• Keith Whittemore – Italian Open J-24 Championship winner
Performance Awards
Performance Award trophies are awarded to individuals or boats who have won specific races or events. Winners of 2013 Performance Awards were:
• Brad Butler on Dos (Port Madison YC) – Blakely Rocks Trophy
• Bill Weinstein on Terremoto (CYC) – Werner Ohmes Foghorn Trophy for best overall Center Sound performance
• Jerry Diercks on Delirium (CYC) – Northwest Challenge Cup for best overall performance in Center Sound, PSSR and PSSC
• Julian Martin (CYC) – Bill Lieberman Trophy (best performance by a CYC Junior at the NW Regional Optimist Regatta)
• Darrel and Kristen Jensen on Alternate Reality (Sloop Tavern YC) – CYC Jack ‘n Jill Race
